Emily Cummins

Emily Cummins is a designer and engineer.
I heard her on the radio a while ago quite by chance and found her so inspiring. At the age of 21 she invented a small fridge that works using available heat and water. One of her concerns was that this could keep medicines cool in hot countries where there is no access to electricity. She has already won many awards and has other fantastic inventions (e.g. toothpaste squeezer for those with arthritis) that you can see on her website. There’s an interesting interview with her here and also a great article here, which shows how the fridge works and photos of her Grandad’s workshop which first inspired her. How I would love to spend a rainy afternoon with these inventors in this shed full of tools and stuff.
So re my previous weary post you see how this beats more plastic chairs!
