I bought these spectators on a bric-a-brac stall recently.
Sometimes it's hard to justify another acquisition when you already have alot of stuff. I couldn't resist these though, obviously handmade by a fanatic and completely charming.
The skylights are real glass and on the back there are adverts cut from a newspaper and stuck on.
I love the faces, the expressions, the hair shapes. The colours of the coats are so subtle and the variety of hat styles seem perfectly placed.
It didn't take that long to find an excuse to buy them as they are real folk art to me and worth plenty more than the £15 they cost in pure joy in my home.
I've put them at eye level on a rough wooden shelf in the living room and they look quite at home there overseeing everything.

Hello visitors, and welcome new visitor Ms M, thanks for your comments.
ReplyDeleteYes these spectators do look older generation but everything else indicates they were made to go with a Scalextric toy motor racing kit. I imagine they might have been made by a dad or grandad for a son, or maybe not even for a youngster - have you seen a group of men in their late 30's getting excited about Scalextric - quite shocking.
Aww that's soooo cute - hope you're well x
